  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the brisket and rub it with smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, and salt.
  2. In a skillet, caramelize sliced onions over medium heat until golden brown (15–20 minutes), then add minced garlic for an additional few minutes.
  3. Layer caramelized onions at the bottom of a slow cooker or Dutch oven. Place seasoned brisket on top.
  4. Mix brown sugar, soy sauce, beef broth, and apple cider vinegar; pour over the brisket.
  5. Cook on low for 8–10 hours in a slow cooker or bake covered at 300°F (150°C) for 3–4 hours.
  6. Let the brisket rest for 20 minutes before shredding and mixing with cooking liquid.
