  • 5 medium apples, sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 cups salted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups old-fashioned whole rolled oats
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp salted butter, cubed (for sauce)
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp heavy cream
  • pinch of fine sea salt
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 pan with nonstick spray and parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice and other filling ingredients; set aside.
  3. Melt salted butter in a large bowl, then mix in remaining crust ingredients until crumbly.
  4. Press half of the crust mixture into the prepared pan, layer with spiced apples, and sprinkle the reserved crust on top.
  5. Bake for 38 to 45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  6. While baking, prepare the salted caramel sauce by melting granulated sugar and adding cubed butter and heavy cream until smooth.
  7. Cool bars completely before slicing and drizzle with caramel before serving.
