  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 2 cups lean beef (thinly sliced or shredded)
  • 2 cups Swiss cheese (shredded)
  • 1.5 cups sauerkraut (drained)
  • 1 cup Thousand Island or Russian dressing
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer half of the rye bread on the bottom of the dish. Follow with half of the beef, half of the cheese, half of the sauerkraut, and half of the dressing. Repeat all layers with the remaining ingredients.
  4. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  5. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
